Bullets in Bloom

2009 - 2010

This series “Bullets in Bloom” was borne out of the discovery that the impact of a bullet on certain surfaces sometimes creates a flower-like shape. This strong paradox of something so lethal and manmade creating an effect so beautiful and natural fascinated me. I began to explore the visual impact of such an effect.

I experience the analogy of a continuum between a form of life and death. Working on readymade wallpaper with some basic flower designs, I feel the freedom to experiment with materials such as ink, oil and various industrial materials. The investigative process led me to some authentic photographs showing wounds from live ammunition, which helped me understand the physicality of this unusual coincidence.
